BBFC is meant by British Broad Film Censorship. Their role is to put age limit to films which would like to be realised but if they don't not go through this process they would not be able to get it realised. This is so they could protect the public from anything that can cause harm or anything that is offensive. As for example a 5 year old child can not watch a thriller movie as if it is a psychological film it will leave a damage that will not be a good effect on them. So then this is wear the BBFC come out from and puts the age limit, which creates the age limit to keep the public from danger. The purpose of a film opening is for the audience to watch and understand if the film that they would like to watch is relevant to there age group, as not only the age group if the genre is the right genre that would like to watch, because not always people understand it from the information that is provided they would also like to watch and understand.
What information is needed in a film opening?
In a film opening the information that must be on there is the opening credit and introduction so, this is meant b meeting the main characters, as also seeing the setting, if the opening doesn't go good and the things that the audience had expected to see in the rest of the film doesn't come up they would lose audience, as they will get very angry at the situation.
What things get censored and why?
There are many things that can get censored if it is not shown in the right way for example extreme drug, if there are nothing that shows how bad it is and has a note to the audience at the end it will be censored as they are just showing how it's good, but not how it's actually bad for them so they shouldn't do it. A different one can be religion as if in the film there are racism towards different religions and shows how it's a good thing to be done it will be banned as these are not good because everyone is a human they all have the same rights non of them has more or less from each other. So people would get offended which isn't right so it will be banned
Examples of censored films:
Mikes- was banned because of torture and murder which a small kid took part as a antagonist, as this wasn't a good look because they were using a small kid to show these.
Cannibal Holocaust- was banned because there were real animals that were killed.
Grotesque- was banned because of the political environment.
Scum- the Scum was banned because of gang rape, racism, suiciede and violence which was show in a very bad way as this was not good to be realised.
What is the difference between films being cut and banned?
The difference between a film being cut and a film being banned is that the BBFC will cut the parts that they think is not right and then let the film to be realised for people to watch but a film being banned will mean that the film would not be able to be realised even though it is cut because the part that they don't like or wouldn't want to see is a non ending thing so it carries on through out the whole film.
Forna (for) and Kemode (against)
In this debate we see the argument between Forna and Kemode as they are debating about if BBFC is a good idea or not as we see Forna thinking that it is a good idea because the BBFC is protecting the public from the wrong as Kemode thinks the opposite that everyone should be able to watch what ever they want because it's there choice to watch it or not.
To there point I think both sides are right as they both have good ideas on what is true to them. For example Kemode he is right about everyone should watch what they want as it is there option even though the people are not able to watch it at the cinemas they will find a way to watch it if they want for example from the internet because it isn't that hard to find the film online if I want to I would and no one could stop me cause no one would know that I'm watching it. But Forna is right as well because the film isn't for there age group as it could be dangerous so let's say a 8 year old child watched a thriller movie, which has violence and crime them watching it would effect them as they might find it funny so they might try it cause they don't really know what they are doing, which is wrong. So I think that Forna is the right one even though Kemode has good ideas about it, but BBFC is made for children so they could be safe and not learn the things they shouldn't in a young age as it can be dangerous.
Conclusion
From this research I have learnt that BBCF is very important as it does not only not let films to be realised and banned them because what they think that there are wrong things that they are doing this because. They are also doing this for the audiences good as they are trying to keep the audience safe by doing this so nothing goes bad because the things they banned are dangerous for some ages and some are not rellavant to be shown because people can get offended. As these have helped me to understand why BBCF is very important and will help me with my AS Media thriller opening by me knowing what are the wrong things that I shouldn't be using and doing cause it is wrong and not right.
Basic response to the task but at times proficient as you do present both sides to the argument of censorship and refer to appropriate examples. You provide your own personal opinion on the matter which is also good.
