What
is editing? Why is it important?
Editing
is the stage where the improvements will be made for a final piece, which then
everyone will see when the final piece is ready. Firstly correcting the mistake
that has been done is a mean of editing, as it is the first point that will be
edited. The second editing will be in terms of films is visually changing the
movement or position to have a different affecting in the scene through the
response the producer and the audience gives. Editing is very important, as if
a producer of a film wants as much as audience he could get to watch a film,
which is not edited and is just given as a final piece with the mistakes well
there would not be anyone which is an audience to watch the film. Can you
imagine how would a film be with no sound? It will not have any effect on them,
which will lose audience then.
How
is editing used in films?
Editing
is used to visually change the camera and position or the movement. Editing is
not only to change the mistakes to goods it’s also to make it better than the
one which was not at the start.
The difference between transition and editing is that editing is where improvements are made and in transition it's a image that's presented in a filtered way for example.
Key
terms:
Transition- a transition is when an image is going to
be shown with in a way for example filtering.

Types of editing
- Wide cut – this is when the slide shots into another one.
- Dissolve- when one scene moves in to another scene smoothly
- Reaction shot- this is when a reaction happens to something that was from before
- Montage- this is when the shots are quickly juxtaposed within each other to create enthusiasm.
- Slow motion-slow motion is when the scene goes slower than it was before to give an effect.
- 180 rule- is when the camera placed somewhere inside 180 degrees on a particular side of the invisible line of a shot containing two people, this is so when people are watching it if the camera moves it will look like they have moved places.
- Shot reverse shot- this is when a shot is changed to another quickly which are used in films when conversations are taking place.
Jump cut- is a dramatic movement when two shots of the
same subject are taken from camera positions that move from one to the other.
Conclusion:
In this research i have learnt the types of editing as these would be helpful in my own thriller opening scene as now i now know how to edit scenes, if there are mistakes in some parts of the opening scene i would be able to montage it.
