What was the preliminary task and what were
its main aims?
A preliminary task is a task which will
make us learn techniques which is thirty seconds long. As this contains a lot
of different shots. This has helped us even though it wasn’t good enough it
showed what we should not do when taking our opening scene. The preliminary
task has helped us to know each other’s weaknesses and strengths to learn who
would have what role in the production.
While filming the preliminary task we have
learnt the particular skills and techniques we all had, such as Dillan was the
one which was good at using the camera he had the skills and knew the
techniques. As I have also learnt the basic things of using a camera for
example turning the camera on inserting an SD card into the camera using the
filters which the camera has. As these has helped me to know to film specific
shots and angles correctly. The preliminary task has helped me a lot as before
I never knew how to edit a video by a professional program which is, Final Cut
Pro X.
Finally at the end of this task we sort out each others roles as it made it much easier to give each others roles as we have seen what people are capable to do when filming. As Dillan taking the role of the director
and in charge of soundtrack, Trang taking the role as the producer, story boarder
and editor and i'm taking responsibility for the Mise En Scene. These roles had helped us to know what we had to do so we knew what everyone had to do through out the whole production no one would be able to say I don't know what i need to do because everyone has a role in the production to do.
Preliminary Task:
Filming:
I am now able to film better from different type of angles such as high angle
and low angles. As their shots explains the character a lot of the time, not only
with the angles of the camera also from the way they seem in that angle. For
example a character which is miserable will be in a shot which the atmosphere
the person is in will be shown in it as well to shows the negativity. This makes
the audience capture the characters feelings as they would put themselves in
the characters place.
When filming I am now able to use a tripod as I never knew how to use it
before but now it is much easier to be used because I know how to place it and
in which size as well. But we did not use a tripod when filming because we didn’t
find it much useful to be used as we had a camera which small tripods would be
able to hold it straight.
Editing:
I am now able to use final cut pro x
when editing much better as I have learnt how to use different effects such as
adding filter on to one of the shots which makes it give the feeling to the
audience that they are watching a thriller movie it could be tension or
suspense.

I am much more confident on adding transitions which would create excitement to the
thriller, as this would give the audience mix emotions. As now I am able to cut scenes to jump into a different scene to create tension within the audience. The different types of transitions gave the audience a feeling of something which is going to happen with the sound that is used at the back.
Comparison from my preliminary to my thriller:

The first time I've used panning shot we were not that proficient with the camera as it was the first time filming. But when we used it for our production we were much more capable of using a camera as we have used it before filming many times for our production. as there is emotions that can be show in the second one than the first one.
In this shot we see the close-up as in the first one we ain't able to have the camera still because we were not able have the camera still as it was the first time using a camera to film, and in this shot we didn't have good lighting. But in the second image as you could see we have a clear image on whats going on which creates tension to the audience as we had the skills shown in this shot,

There is a basic understanding of your personal development from the preliminary task to your final product. There are some examples discussed, with some comparisons between the preliminary task and final product. However, there is no evidence of the planning steps you undertook to make your final product successful, nor is there any personal reflection of your key skills at the end.
