Research: Narrative themes and plots - Miss Begum

What are themes? Why is it important?

Theme is a story line where the characters acts it out for the audience to know what the film is based on. This is important as if there are no theme there wont be any meaning for the audience to watch the film.

Themes and Genre:
Themes are dependent on genre as they have a lot of meaning they are the explanation of the audiences feelings for example:

• Psychological- this is when the thriller film effects you in a mentally way.
• Crime- they get upset on who died.
• Violence- this makes the person get out of there seat as they get scared and mentally out of the head.
• Mystery- this was the way they made the audience think so this would make them surprise.

There are many ways to make the audience think and feel as themes are created for this reason as it takes a big part in the industry of films.

Common themes in thrillers:

• Crime and violence are common themes in thriller as they both have a bad ending to the argument, was we see this in the movie se7en as.
• Mystery and psychological is a different example for the common themes for thriller as they both effect the audience in a mental way which can be dangerous in different ways.
• Drug&Alcohol and Sex is common in thriller as well as they both are not right they give the same reaction to the audience as they watch it as a theme for the genre thriller.

And there are more as mostly all of the themes do connect in some part to each other.

Conclusion:

I have learnt a lot in this research and have took a lot of ideas on what type of thriller As opening i will have when i do my one, as psychological thriller is a theme that i would want to use to make the audience think a lot and mentally confuse them on what is going to happen next or what will happen throughout the film.
